01Kitchen checklist
0 / 8What the clerk checks: The kitchen is where grease builds up in places nobody looks during a tenancy. Clerks open cupboards, look at the tops of wall units and check the sink for limescale.
(Free checklist)
This end of tenancy cleaning checklist follows the order a check-out clerk works in, room by room, so you can see exactly what will be looked at before you hand back the keys. Use it to clean the property yourself, or to check what a professional clean covers and which add-ons you need.
(How to use it)
Start with your check-in report. It records the condition of each room and appliance when you moved in, and the check-out clerk compares against it. If the oven was listed as clean, it needs to be clean now. If the carpets were professionally cleaned, your landlord may expect the same at the end. Anything the report doesn't mention, or noted as already worn, is far less likely to become a deduction.
Work from top to bottom in each room so dust falls onto areas you haven't cleaned yet, and leave the floors until last. Empty the property of your belongings first: it is much harder to clean properly around boxes. Items marked as add-ons are not part of our base clean but can be booked for a fixed price.
01What the clerk checks: The kitchen is where grease builds up in places nobody looks during a tenancy. Clerks open cupboards, look at the tops of wall units and check the sink for limescale.
02Add-on · £55What the clerk checks: If the check-in report lists the oven as clean, the clerk will open the door, pull out a rack and look at the glass. Our single oven interior clean is a £55 add-on.
03Add-on · £25What the clerk checks: A standard fridge freezer interior is a £25 add-on. Empty it and switch the freezer off in good time to defrost before the clean.
04What the clerk checks: London's hard water means limescale is the most common bathroom issue at check-out. Descale rather than wipe, and pay attention to chrome and glass.
05What the clerk checks: Bedrooms are usually quick, but clerks check inside furniture and along the skirting boards.
06What the clerk checks: Open-plan kitchen and living spaces are common in newer London flats, so do the kitchen side first and the living side after.
07What the clerk checks: Hallways collect scuffs and dust from the move itself, so clean them last, after the boxes have gone.
08What the clerk checks: Inside windows are part of our base clean. External glass on upper floors is a specialist job and not usually expected of tenants unless your tenancy says otherwise.
09What the clerk checks: Outside spaces are not part of our standard base clean, so do these yourself or mention them when you ask for a price.
10Last stepWhat the clerk checks: A few last steps make the check-out go smoothly and give you evidence if anything is disputed later:

Book this cleanUsually the kitchen and bathroom. In the kitchen they open cupboards, look inside the oven and check the sink and hob for grease and limescale. In the bathroom they look at taps, the shower screen, grout and the toilet. After that they check skirting boards, inside wardrobes, window tracks and the carpets, comparing each against the check-in report.
If the check-in report records the oven as clean, you need to return it in the same condition, allowing for fair wear and tear. If you don't want to do it yourself, our single oven interior clean is a £55 add-on covering the racks, trays, cavity and door glass. It is not part of the base clean.
Check your tenancy agreement and check-in report. A landlord can't make you pay for a professional clean, but if the carpets were clean at check-in and are now stained or dirty, the cost of cleaning them can be deducted from your deposit. We can arrange carpet cleaning through an independent partner from £35 a room.
Clean once the property is empty, ideally a day or two before the check-out inspection. Cleaning around boxes leaves gaps, and cleaning a week early gives dust time to settle again. If you book us, choose a date after your belongings have gone and before the inspection, so there is time to use the 72-hour re-clean guarantee if needed.
You can print this page directly from your browser, which keeps all the room-by-room lists together. Tick items off as you go, and take your check-in report with you room by room, so you can compare what the clerk will see against what was recorded when you moved in.
